Step 1 - Initial Interview
To start, a phone or personal interview is arranged where you and Matt get
acquainted and trade ideas and expectations. Ideally, some written stories
are also given to Matt at this time so that the songwriting process can
begin in earnest. This meeting may also cover many other details such as the
timeline for the song's completion, its style and instrumentation (drums,
bass, piano, cello, etc.), tone, and emotional goals. In addition, the
presentation of the lyrics and any live performance details may be discussed
at this point. Half the fee is also paid at this first meeting while a
second meeting date and time is agreed upon.
